"And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads."  -Revelation 7:2-3

Foregiveness that Frees - Chet Damron

Foregiveness that Frees

by Chet Damron

F-O-R-G-I-V-E-N-! The sweetest word ever spoken to any human being at any time! F-O-R-G-I-V-E-! Perhaps the most difficult word for any human being to speak at any time! Jesus often spoke these words to people He met while on this earth. Worship in the ancient tabernacle centered on forgiveness of sin. A humble and contrite heart was the motivation that made it possible for the sinner to be forgiven. A forgiving and a forgiven sinner - like me - filled with the grace of God, knowing the great price Jesus paid for my salvation, moves me to obey my Lord and find the joy and peace He gives me in worship that brings – forgiveness that frees, me the forgiver and you the forgiven, or me the forgiven and you the forgiver. It works both ways in God's great salvation plan. Come join us as we learn - again for the "first time" - the "abc's" of our Christian faith!

Storyteller, (Your Story Hour) Chester (aka "Chet) Damron sees himself as a young-at-heart 77-year old optimist! Chet happens to be retired at the moment, but that "status" is subject to change "without notice!" Chet's hobbies include seven grandchildren (he will show you outstanding pictures of his kids if you even "hint" that you are interested...!) He also enjoys walking, bicycling, and working-out–to help maintain optimum health! For the past 14 years, Chet has been privileged to serve as a volunteer at Your Story Hour where he is co-host as Uncle Dan with Aunt Carole. He counts Abraham Lincoln a "dear friend" since he has presented the "Abe Lincoln Impressionist" across America and into the Far East since 1974. In 2006, he was voted by the national Lincoln organization "The Association of Lincoln Presenter" the "Lincoln of the Year" award. Getting to know people is his greatest delight! Chet's "life in ministry" has included the following: farming, dairying, construction; bagging groceries, garbage man, food service, janitor, and sales at college and seminary; pastor, teacher, missionary, college president, mission pilot, university chaplain, hospital chaplain, and motivational speaker–counselor to thousands of youth around the world. He is an ordained minister in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. For ten years (1975-85), he served as associate pastor of the Pioneer Memorial Church on the campus of Andrews University. He continues his ministry for the Lord, when invited, to church groups around the world. Chet praises his Lord Jesus Christ for whatever blessing he has been to people throughout his lifetime. He is constantly amazed, and humbled, by what God, his dear mother, and the dedicated teachers and staff at Southern Missionary College did to encourage a dedicated farm boy; whose dream was to have the "best dairy farm in Florida," to become a herald of God's love and grace around the world. His motto: "Lord, Thy Will. Nothing more. Nothing less, Nothing else."

And Call the Sabbath a Delight - Jo Ann Davidson

And Call the Sabbath a Delight

by Jo Ann Davidson

The Sabbath is one of the profound blessings of our faith that I have always appreciated. In fact, I thought I had a rather complete grasp of all there was to know about the Sabbath. I knew it started at sundown Friday evening, that the seventh day was the biblical Sabbath, and that it was important to guard the edges of the Sabbath, etc. I rejoice that the Sabbath is much more than knowing the right day--although that, of course, is of key importance. Even more it is a day of royal fellowship with the Creator, in His palace in time.

Daughter of missionary parents, Dr. Jo Ann Davidson is also a fourth generation Seventh-day Adventist. She recalls her mother saying to her, "the blessings of being a Seventh-day Adventist have surely seeped into your genes and chromosomes by now!" Formerly a home schooling mom and music instructor, Jo Ann now teaches in the Andrews University Theological Seminary–the first woman to teach in the Theology department.

She earned her Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield, IL) in 2000. Articles she has written have appeared in the Adventist Review, Signs of the Times, Journal of the Adventist Theological Society, and Andrews University Seminary Studies, along with a column, "Let's Face It," in the journal Perspective Digest. She has also authored the books Jonah: The Inside Story (Review and Herald), Toward a Theology of Beauty: A Biblical Perspective (University Press of America), and Glimpses of Our God (Pacific Press). Jo Ann finds great fulfillment in her many roles as wife, mother, daughter, sister, auntie, teacher, musician, student and Seventh-day Adventist Christian.

Remember the Exodus - Richard Davidson

Remember the Exodus

by Richard Davidson

Each of the central themes of the Exodus — redemption (by the Passover lamb), liberation (from Egyptian bondage), rebirth (new life at Springtime), and removal of leaven (symbolic of the fermentation of sin) — has a spiritual counterpart in the individual who relives the story. The retelling invites us to identify the Pharaoh’s in our lives that have enslaved us, to remember the ways that God has redeemed us and liberated us from bondage, to focus upon the ongoing experience of spiritual rebirth, and remove the leaven of sinful pride from our lives. -Richard Davidson

Richard M Davidson is a J. N. Andrews Professor of Old Testament Interpretation at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan. He has been with the Andrews faculty since 1979.  Davidson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in theology from Loma Linda University, a Master of Divinity degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Studies from the Theological Seminary at Andrews University. He has presented scores of scholarly papers and written numerous articles, which may be viewed on his website at www.andrews.academia.edu/RichardDavidson. A Love Song for the Sabbath and In the Footsteps of Joshua are two of several books he has authored or co-authored. He is married to Jo Ann Mazat Davidson. They have two children, daughter Rahel and son Jonathan. Davidson enjoys sharing the Word of God and helping to make it come alive in people’s lives, as well as outdoor activities such as backpacking, mountaineering, cross-country skiing, and tennis.

Lightning on the Mountain - Jo Ann Davidson

Lightning on the Mountain

by Jo Ann Davidson

A general consensus exists that the Decalogue has exerted more influence on ethics and law than any other part of Scripture, or any document outside of Scripture. In Roman Catholic moral theology, in Protestant ethics, and in Wester law the Ten Commandments have been foundational for millennia. Legal codes of the Middle Ages were often prefaced with the Ten Commandments. Many commentaries have been written on the Decalogue by both Christian and Jewish authors. From the very beginning, human beings had the power of choice. They were free to make genuine decisions. The divine command to themwas to assist them in making the right choice, but the choice was theirs.

Daughter of missionary parents, Dr. Jo Ann Davidson is also a fourth generation Seventh-day Adventist. She recalls her mother saying to her, "the blessings of being a Seventh-day Adventist have surely seeped into your genes and chromosomes by now!" The Perfect Storm (2009 NRLA) - Herbert Douglass

The Perfect Storm

by Herbert Douglass

Just as farmers must wait for their seed to mature, so Jesus has told us that He will wait until the gospel seed has produced a harvest that He can stamp with His approval. When that harvest is ripe, when the wheat and the tares are fully mature, all the events we associate with the end will happen very quickly, such as the Latter Rain, Loud Cry, Sunday laws, etc. For example, the “Latter Rain” falls only on mature Christians, which makes possible the “Loud Cry.” We have been living in the time of the delayed harvest for far too long. The fruits of the Spirit that reflect the character of Jesus have not yet matured. Paul often reflected on the parable of the harvest: “This I pray . . . that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God” (Phil. 1:9-11). “Because of the hope . . . which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth” (Col. 1:5, 6).

Well-known as a college administrator, theologian, and author of over 24 books, Herbert Douglass, Th.D., is also known as a specialist on the ministry of Ellen G. White. Many of his books and articles focus on "last-day events" such as: The Jesus Difference, Never Been This Late Before, God at Risk, and Dramatic Prophecies of Ellen White—Stories of World Events Divinely Foretold.
